In the Whitsunday’s we enjoy beautifully temperate weather all year round, with an average of 23 degrees Celsius in the middle of winter. So, if you’re visiting our humble isle during July and August, it’s best to pack accordingly. To help you out, we’ve listed a few winter essentials you’ll need to bring to make your mid-year getaway the best yet.

Your Sunnies
Whilst the southern states are plunged into darkness for the better part of the season, here at the Whitsundays, the sun is always out to play. Even during an overcast day, the glare off the pristine waters can be beautiful, but also a touch annoying. So remember; always bring your sunnies.

Bathers/Togs/Swimmers
It doesn’t matter what you call them, as long as you bring them. Because a Whitsunday getaway, regardless of the season, will see you spending more time in the pool than anywhere else (and it’s a good thing our pool is one of the best on the island too!).

Sunscreen
Yep, it might be the middle of winter, but the UV is still pretty high. It pays to be sun-smart, so bring a hat too. But never, ever, forget to slip, slop, slap.

A Beach Throw
Pack a towel, sure. Although you’ll soon wish you packed something a little bigger for those picnics you’ll find yourself enjoying every day on the beach, or in the gardens. A lighter and larger beach throw is perfect, and you’ll be glad you brought it from Day 1!

A Good Book
We’ve touched on it before, and it pays to bring it up here again. In our opinion, there is no better place on this beautiful planet to simply relax and read a good book, than Hamilton Island. With the sounds and sights of paradise as your backdrop, getting lost between the pages has never been more alluring. So, pack a good book. Or two.
