Australian borders are closed which means no overseas travel to visit beautiful beaches and tropical destinations...Or does it?

Do we have something for you!

Drum roll, please….

Let us introduce you to the Whitsunday Islands, located in beautiful far North Queensland.

If you’re looking for a holiday with summer feels all year round—this is your place. You don’t have to just take our word for it either. The Whitsundays have on multiple occasions topped the Condé Nast Traveler list of the best islands in Australia & the South Pacific. Finishing up on top against the likes of Bora Bora, Tahiti and Fiji, it’s no over-exaggeration that the Whitsundays is truly a world-class destination!

So if you’re looking for a tropical getaway with white sand, salty air and a cocktail every hour on the hour, we know just the place. It’s not Bali, the Bahamas, or Bora Bora, but it’s just as beautiful. It starts with WAHI and ends with a great time. So forget Bali (for the moment) and experience WAHI!

Because we love to take the hard work out of the travel itinerary research and leave you with more time to get excited, we have compiled a list of some of our favourite things that you can experience while staying at WAHI.

1. Find sunset serenity at One Tree Hill

Enjoy the magnificent sunset scenes at One Tree Hill, the best spot to set up and watch the day fade away. There is a bar where you can purchase drinks and nibbles to pair with the view. With little to no light pollution, the sunsets are like no other. Stay for long enough after the sun goes down and you will experience a light show of stars and perhaps even catching a glimpse of a shooting star. Sounds magical, doesn’t it?

2. Find your balance

Take in the fresh, salty air and magnificent views of the surrounding landscape by spending the day out on a stand-up paddleboard. Head to Catseye beach, which is only a hop, skip and a jump from your WAHI apartment. Perfect for all ages and experience levels.

3. Set sail and explore the surrounding area

One of the most iconic ways to get out and see the area is to spend a day out sailing on a catamaran. The Whitsundays is a boaters paradise, with calm anchorage points and amazing sailing routes. Whether it's a day trip, half-day trip or a sunset cruise, you are shore to return feeling relaxed! Get your cameras ready because if you’re lucky you may even spot a turtle or the tail of a breaching whale.

4. Next stop, Chalkies Beach

While you’re on that catamaran, stopover at Chalkies beach, located approximately 30 mins offshore of Hamilton Island. Experience the flourishing marine life or perhaps relax on the white soft sand to just take it all in.

5. The silky sands of Whitehaven

Considered one of the most romantic and beautiful beaches in the world, Whitehaven is a must-see. Think white powdery sand and turquoise calm waters. Made up of 98.9% pure silica sand that is unique to the region, the sand is so white that it reflects the sunlight, therefore never burning you underfoot. Once you run the sand through your fingers you’ll understand why people from all over the globe are drawn to this famous stretch of beach.

6. Dive or fly over the wonder that is the Great Barrier Reef

Experience all the glory of our local marine life by visiting the outer reef. You can either cruise out to the reef or for something you will never forget, catch a helicopter and witness jaw-dropping views of the Great Barrier Reef–including the famous Heart Reef–from above. This bird's eye view will give you a whole new perspective on the magnitude and magnificence of this natural wonder.

7. Picture perfect Passage Peak

Hike up to Passage Peak to witness what true paradise looks like. It will only take between 50-60 minutes to arrive at the top and there you will be met with the most breathtaking views of the island. Get up just before sunrise for that picture-perfect shot. Of course, don’t forget to tag us @wahiwhitsundays and use #StayWAHI if you share your pic to Instagram.

We said we’d stop at a few things, but who are we kidding we can’t help ourselves…. Some other fun things to keep you busy during your stay are:

  1. Having a game of beach volleyball on Catseye Beach
  2. Enjoying your breakfast with some furry friends at Hamilton Island Wildlife Cafe
  3. Going for a hit of golf at Dent island and staying afterwards for lunch at the spectacular clubhouse
  4. Getting pampered at the local day spa
  5. Taking an art class on the island
  6. Trying out parasailing
  7. Heading go-karting with the whole family
  8. Last but not least, kicking up your feet at the end of a day experiencing the Whitsundays, glass in hand, in the best place of all… your WAHI balcony.
