It’s finally time for the long-awaited and highly needed Christmas holidays. At last, a chance for some well-deserved relaxation…

Unless of course, you are a parent, which means you now have to swap out your day job for the full-time role of school-holiday entertainment co-ordinator. With kids tugging at your sleeve every five minutes ready for their next activity, school holidays can sometimes feel like the furthest thing from a break.

Except, this year you made the wise decision to bring your family to WAHI, located in one of the most family-friendly holiday destinations in the world. AKA, a magical place where “mum… I’m bored” “dad… what can we do now” is nothing but a distant memory. From dusk to dawn, no matter what age, there is an endless supply of entertainment available that will keep everyone happy!

So if you are heading to WAHI with some little kids (or big kids) in tow, we have put together some of our top picks to keep the whole family busy at WAHI these school holidays!

1. Make some furry friends

Get up close and personal with some of Australia's most iconic wildlife at Hamilton Island Wildlife. Spend the day hanging out with the likes of marsupials, snakes, lizards, koalas and kangaroos. If you’re feeling game you can even meet the park’s very own resident crocodile! With numerous unique experiences on offer, you can get your photo taken with koalas, dingoes, pythons, lizards, and even Freddie the talking Cockatoo! Or take a guided tour with one of the parks expert keepers who will help introduce you to all of the animals.

2. Explore the wonders of the Whitsundays

For something extra special that the family will be sure to remember, why not book a day trip out to the beautiful Whitehaven Beach. Relax and swim in the sparkling turquoise water while the kids play in the pure white silica sand. Older ones can head off to explore the spectacular Hill Inlet lookout and get some photos worthy of the ‘gram’. No matter what age, there are endless ways to spend your time on Whitehaven Beach!

3. Search for Nemo

One of our favourite family hangout spots is sure to be Catseye Beach. Head out for a snorkel and see what sea creatures you can find! If you’re lucky you might even get to swim with one of the beautiful turtles that also like to hang out around the beach.

4. Go for a putt

5. Hit the race track

If you are looking for something a bit more fast-paced, head over to Go-Kart Racing in Palm Valley. Take the wheel on the custom-built track and reach speeds of up to 45 kilometres per hour as you twist and turn through tropical surrounds. It will be sure to leave your heart racing and blood pumping!

With all of these family-friendly activities on offer, don’t forget to also schedule in some time out to relax and recharge. If you need a few hours (or a whole day) you can book your kids in at the island’s Clownfish Kids Club. They have a wide range of fun activities and will make sure the kids are still having a fantastic day while you’re getting some much-needed R&R.

Staying with us between mid-December and mid-January? The island’s summer festival brings with it all kinds of exciting daily activities and entertainment! You can check out more info about the festive season here and further info about spending school holidays on the island here.
