When it comes to Mother’s Day, finding the perfect gift for your mum, aunt, gran, or any other special woman in your life is always a top priority. It’s an opportunity to show just how much they mean to you and say thank you for everything that they do.

From scented candles and bath bombs to new cushions or boxes of chocolate, there are plenty of tried and tested gifts that you can pick up from the shops to treat mum. But if you really want to spoil her with an experience fit for royalty, you’ve come to the right place! The island offers something for every type of mum – whether she’s sporty, arty or anything in between.

With Mother's Day just around the corner, here are some ideas on how to spoil mum if you are staying with us on the island.

1. For the sporty mum

If your mum loves to wake up before sunrise, hits 10,000 steps every day and is a regular at the gym, she’s in for a treat. Our backyard is not only beautiful but also the perfect place to lace up your walking shoes, work up a sweat and spend time exploring.

Let mum take her pick from one of the many hiking trails across the island and spend some quality time outdoors while taking in the natural beauty of the Whitsundays. And after all that hiking, why not cool off down at Catseye Beach where she can try out stand up paddle boarding across the cove’s glistening blue water. For something a little more fast-paced, you could spark up some friendly competition with a family match of tennis or mini-golf, which are both just a couple of minutes’ walk or buggy ride from WAHI. Or for an all-out once-in-a-lifetime experience, you could spend the day on the iconic Dent Island for a game of golf and lunch with a view at the Clubhouse.

2. For the artsy mum

From water-colour painting to drawing, clay sculpting to colouring, there is something oh-so-relaxing about an afternoon of arts and crafts. Life gets pretty busy as a mum, so if she loves to spend her free time getting creative (but never seems to have much free time) Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity for her to immerse herself in something creative.

A great option is to book mum in for an art class, where she’ll have the opportunity to experience a creative session with one of the island’s talented guest artists. Whether she is a seasoned artist looking to brush up on her skills or she just wants to have a  bit of fun, there are a variety of classes available for beginners right through to experienced painters. Alternatively, the beauty of staying in a spacious self-contained apartment at WAHI is that you’ll have enough space to set up your own creative session. If you didn’t pack any supplies, the island’s gallery stocks a range of art supplies available for purchase. Set up some painting with the whole family on your WAHI balcony and enjoy an afternoon of capturing your beautiful ocean view. Plus your paintings can serve as a precious keepsake for mum to remember her trip for years to come!

3. For the bookworm mum

For some mums, the best gift is the opportunity to slow down and unwind by immersing herself in the pages of her latest book. At WAHI, mum can put her feet up by our lagoon pool and dive into her novel with the luxury of a lounge and umbrella. Plus, the beauty of staying at WAHI is that you can easily pop back up to your apartment to pick up extra supplies, grab some food at lunchtime or take an afternoon siesta in the air-con.

Other mums may prefer a day at the beach filled with mesmerising views, cooling breezes and all her must-read books. Catseye Beach is a popular pick for bookworm mums, as there are plenty of activities on the waterfront to keep the entire family busy and ensure she can read uninterrupted.

4. For the wine mum

Is there any better way to celebrate your mum than over a toast to the woman of the hour? There are so many incredible restaurants and bars dotted across the island, which all serve up delicious cocktails, offer impressive wine lists and have an expansive range of beer and cider on tap too.

For Mother’s Day, we do suggest reserving your table ahead of time as most places will book out in advance. You can explore some of the amazing options here. Plus, no trip to the island is complete without a sunset cocktail at One Tree Hill.

5. For the mum who never stops

Is your mum always on-the-go? Racing around to complete her to-do list? Packing more into her day each week? It’s time to give her the break she deserves with a day of true indulgence. Create your own ultimate pamper day and spoil your mum by cooking her breakfast in bed with your fully-equipped kitchen and supplies picked up from the IGA located just minutes away. You can easily follow up this beautiful start to the day with a spa treatment or massage, before booking her in to get glammed up at Island Hair and Beauty. It’s an experience she’ll hold onto for years to come!

Every mum should be celebrated all year round – but particularly on Mother’s Day! If you’re stuck on what to give mum because she deserves the world, why not surprise her with the trip of a lifetime to WAHI! You’ll be sure to win plenty of brownie points!
