Believe it or not, it’s that time of year again. Time to bid farewell to another year and welcome in the next. Like always, the island is gearing up to send off 2020 in style. From exciting daily activities to bars and restaurants jam-packed with entertainment, the island’s annual summer festival is one not to be missed!

Running from mid-December to mid-January, the festival lines up with school holidays, making it the perfect time to bring the whole family to the Whitsundays (and of course, #StayWAHI).

So, if you are spending your holiday season with us here at WAHI, we have outlined all of the family fun that will be taking place below.

The night before Christmas…

While the elves are busy putting on all of the final touches, head down to the Beach Pavilion for a Christmas Eve beach picnic! There will be casual takeaway food options, refreshments and even an appearance from the man in the red suit himself. Sit back with your family and enjoy the beautiful Catseye Beach—there will even be some fireworks, to add to the holiday magic!

Christmas Day

Here on the island, we have been lucky enough to schedule in some highly sought after time with Santa in between his busy schedule. Santa will be visiting different parts of the island across the big day:

7.30 am - 8.00 am: Santa and Elves will visit Sails, Pool Terrace and Resort Centre

8.35 am – 9.15 am: Santa and Elves will be at Front Street.

10.00 am - 2.00 pm: Santa will be based at the Reef View Hotel, Resort Centre, Main Pool and Sails

Now, for the most important part of Christmas Day... the food! Don’t worry, no one will be left hungry. Many of the island’s restaurants have put together amazing menus fit for a king! To find out more about the different dining options available during Christmas head here. Sails and Pool Terrace will also be open for usual dining; however, we do recommend booking ahead of time.

New Year’s Eve

Start off your evening at the Beach Pavilion, where you will find a kids fun zone and a family-friendly fireworks show over the beach, which kicks off from 8:30 pm.

After you have tucked the little ones in, it’s time to head down to the island’s annual New Year’s Eve Party, where Front Street comes alive with bar stalls, fireworks and live entertainment. Music will kick off from 10:00 pm onwards with “Vegas Please” taking the stage at the Marina Tavern Forecourt. Of course, it wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve, without a midnight fireworks extravaganza. Please note that the area in front of Marina Tavern becomes an adults-only area after 9 pm due to licensing restrictions.

Has all this dancing got you feeling a bit hungry? There are also plenty of dining options available on New Year’s Eve. To find out more you can head here, we recommend booking ahead to avoid missing out.
