After more than two decades, Queensland’s hallmark slogan of “beautiful one day, perfect the next” still rings true for the Whitsundays. This tropical destination is absolutely postcard-perfect all year round, but there is something pretty special about the Island during autumn.

The weather ranges from mild to warm, with less daily showers and a seemingly endless number of crisp, clear blue skies. To help you make the most out of your autumn trip, the WAHI team has put together our autumn packing checklist. Arrive with all of these essentials, and you’ll be ready for a once in a lifetime stay with WAHI.

1. Swimmers

Autumn is the perfect time to explore the beautiful scenery and reef surrounding the island. We suggest stuffing your bags full of swimmers because you’re going to want to spend as much time as possible in the ocean, by the pool or soaking in the spa!

2. Layers

The Whitsundays averages at a balmy 24 degrees during autumn, with temperatures dipping as the sun goes down. While you might spend all day basking in the sun, it’s a great idea to pack extra layers for later in the evening. The simplest way to keep yourself comfortable is to bring a long-sleeve shirt or a lightweight jacket to layer on top of your clothes as the temperature starts to cool down.

3. The Slip, Slop, Slap Essentials

The island is a dream come true for every outdoor enthusiast. It’s the type of place where you can spend your mornings hiking up stunning cliffs, before swimming with turtles at lunch and wrapping up your day with a sunset picnic on One Tree Hill. But it’s often not until the end of the day that our guests realise just how much time they’ve spent in the sun! Be sun-smart and pack all the slip, slop, slap essentials! That means sunscreen, long-sleeve shirts, a hat and sunglasses.

4. Camera

The azure waters and incredible landscape of the island are truly one of a kind. Capture the magic of being out on the stunning turquoise water, the sparkle of the sea and the feeling you get from gliding across the ocean by packing your camera. Whether it’s your phone or a full-blown digital camera, we can guarantee that you’ll want to snap these views so that you can hold onto them for as long as possible.

5. Work Out Wear

You can go at sunrise, during the day or for sunset, but a Passage Peak hike is well worth the sweat! It’s a spectacular view at all times of the day, and the calories you burn will give you the perfect excuse for extra dessert later that night! There are plenty of different tracks of varying difficulty around the Island, so make sure you pack your workout gear so that you’re dressed and ready to get your step count up.
