Travel. It’s pretty spectacular when you take a step back and think about it. The fact that even though there are vast stretches of mountains, outback or oceans between one place another, with a press of a few buttons and a click of a seatback, we are able to visit just about anywhere in the world. It’s something that at one time or another we have all been guilty of taking for granted. But as the old saying goes, you really don’t know what you have until it's gone. One global pandemic later, and we have all been reminded how incredible it is to be able to travel.

With the bushfires earlier this year and now COVID-19, the Aussie travel industry has certainly taken a hit during 2020. Nevertheless, Australians have always proved resilient and experts are predicting the industry will bounce back stronger than ever before.

In an article appearing in the NY Post entitled “Why the Travel Industry will be stronger and better after coronavirus”, Tom Marchant, a co-founder of luxury travel operator Black Tomato believes there will be a new appreciation for the destinations we visit. “...This longing for authentic human connection and togetherness will be stronger than ever ... but there will be less of a cookie-cutter travel mentality,” he said.

We may not be jetting off on a European summer vacation anytime soon but this time has reminded us that we don’t actually need to. We have world-class destinations right at our fingertips. With WAHI’s doors recently reopened, it's the perfect time for Aussies who are able to move and reconnect to get back out there and explore our own backyard. Whether you have been to the beautiful Whitsundays before or have always meant to find the time to, there’s something unique and breathtaking about the area. Greeted with a friendly smile and a WAHI welcome, it’s the perfect spot to bring your family if you are in need of an escape from the everyday.

When you break away from routine, it gives a chance to do something exciting or just different with your family or loved ones. Whether it’s going out to see the Great Barrier Reef or simply relaxing by the WAHI pool, you are sure to return home feeling refreshed.
